Story
Hi! Thanks for visiting my page!
For those who don’t know me… here’s my story
In 2011 I signed up to serve in the British Army. I initially loved it, but I experienced abuse and assault which had a negative impact on my mental health. I was suicidal and had begun self harming. In 2016 I was medically discharged from the army because of my poor mental health.
I was in and out of hospital and felt like I’d lost everything… my friends, my career, a place to live. After my discharge I was under the care of my local mental health team, where I worked hard engaging in therapy and finding the right medication.
I also took part in the invictus games and warrior games. Through this I realised how powerful mental health is and I knew I wanted to be able to give something back and support others who struggled with their mental health.
In 2022 I completed my nurse training and I am now a qualified mental health nurse. I truly believe I have found my place in life.
Mental health services aren’t perfect… there’s a lot of continuous work and investment that needs to happen, and despite an increase in mental health awareness there is still work that needs to be done.
Since my discharge I have steadily put weight on and have been content in the odd gym class or walk… so a marathon is going to be a big challenge for me and a perfect opportunity to continue raise awareness and provide support
The Mental Health Foundation is the UK’s charity for everyone’s mental health. With prevention at the heart of what they do, the Mental Health Foundation aim to find and address the sources of mental health problems so that people and communities can thrive.
