Mission: To 'kick' around the 65 mile Isle of Wight coast on Sunday 2nd May 2010 ... with thousands of others on bicycles as part of the Annual Randonnee!
18 Months ago I found a bike, a new kind of bike, called a 'kickbike' now I'm kicking round the Isle of Wight to help Kick Cancer!
When?
On Sunday 2nd May 2010 ... not long
What?
A kickbike is a cross between a child's scooter and a mountain bike, no pedals, its all kicking power, it is hard...much harder than cycling, and hills are tough - it wouldn't be fun otherwise! The route is 65 miles over a notoriously hilly landscape of the Isle of Wight - I have completed this before, as young as 13 years old but on a bicycle
Why?
For 3 hard-fought years my wife Catherine battled...and came too close to comfort...with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, which is the most common cancer in the UK for ages 15-30. Cancer Research UK fund some of the best research into treating Lymphoma, and this money is well spent. If Cat had had the disease 20 or even 10 years ago she would certainly have died - Lymphoma was the first ever cancer to be removed by any treatment; radiotherapy. And Cat actually received treatments which were only developed 1 or 2 years before...the research develops that quickly!
This will be the single hardest physical challenge I have ever overcome, and it will not be easy...your generosity and continuing fantastic support will motivate me to complete this ride.
Funds will also be raised in memory of my absolutely lovely great aunt, Barbara, who passed away from Cancer on 17th February 2010.
