Story
"It is never too late to be what you might have been." George Elliot
Thank you so much for visiting my fund raising page. It is hard for me to believe that this dream is coming to fruition and I am honored that YOU have decided to be a part of it. Many of you already know me while a few of you may not. My name is Kelley Ferguson and I currently live in Florida, in the United States of America. Two years ago, I would have been the last name that came up in any discussion which included marathons or running at all, unless of course, something was chasing me! May 23, 2010 I will complete my first marathon in Edinburgh Scotland. This journey will encompass the attainment of more personal dreams than you can possibly imagine.
I am honored to run on the behalf of Alzheimer Scoltand. This very worthy charity offers support to both the victims as well as the caregivers of dementia and Alzheirmer's disease. I invite you to visit their website at
for more detialed information about the amazing support they provide to those who suffer from this disease, as well as the people who care for them. You might hesitate to support a charity outside your own nation of residence? A few years ago I became the sole caregiver for my two elderly next door neighbors up until their untimely deaths. I spent twenty years living next door to people I barely knew, but in their time of need, I suddenly became the only person in whom they trusted. I cannot express the emotional roller coaster I shared with them ranging from laughter to tears to pure fear. I learned in the end that the loss of their precious memories was not only a tragedy for them but for myself as well. What amazing things I could have learned from the beautiful memories of two lives well lived. I truly believe that had there been more programs, research and/or understanding of their sufferings their last years could have been as full as the years prior to the onset of illness. The point is EVERYONE IS YOUR NEIGHBOR and we ALL benefit from examples set anywhere in the world. Frankly, it is hard for me to articulate about a subject which has resulted in such emotional times for me. I am indeed running on behalf of Lester and Ruby Yarnell. I am running for the parents of a dear friend of mine in England who struggles daily to aid her own parents. Perhaps in the end, I will discover that I am running for you, someone you love or even myself! Many people would consider it a tragedy to have been forgotten by the world....I think the greater tragedy would be in forgetting the few people who truly love you.
