Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am doing 2 events this year to help raise money to replace a Lifeboat at Tower Lifeboat Station: the London Marathon as an individual, and the 5 Peaks of UK and Eire in less than 48 hours as part of a team - see photo. The Marathon has gone of course: 4.08.35 - a better than expected result and so I was pleased with that. 5 Peaks to come.
The RNLI have had E Class Lifeboats in London for 8 years now, and for the last 2 years these have been the busiest operational boats in the RNLI fleet. London stations have laucnhed 4105 times, rescued 1464 people and saved 284 lives. Last year alone my own station - Tower Lifeboat Station, covering Central London from Battersea Bridge to Woolwich Ferry is based at Lifeboat Pier by Waterloo Bridge, launched nearly 400 times and saved 20 lives. The E Class boats are now coming to the end of their service life and need replacement this year, at a cost of £380,000 each.
The RNLI is an independent charity wholly dependant on good will and donations to keep our boats in service and continue saving lives. I am one of the 45 Volunteer Crewmen on the Station; there are also 10 Permanent Crewmen. So I am running the Marathon this year for my Station and new Lifeboat, and 5 of us will be running the 5 Peaks in June for the same cause.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
I realise that times are hard, unfortunately that does not diminish the requirement to save life on the Thames. So please dig deep and donate now.
With best wishes and thanks
Keith
