Story

Many of you will know the little ray of sunshine who goes by the name of Oliver (or Bear to his close friends!) not all of you will know about his rather dramatic first year with us.

At six weeks old Ol as diagnosed with Craniosynostosis, an unusual condition which occurs in  around 1 in 2000 children- despite being a healthy and normally developing baby, his skull had fused early and he didn’t have the ‘soft spot’ which babies have in order to allow their brain and head to grow fast enough. The treatment for this is to undergo a total ‘remodelling’ of the skull at around six months old , this is a major operation which takes at least five hours to complete and involves a total blood transfusion. Oliver had this operation on March 15th 2012 , the longest and worst day of my life to date, thankfully it was successful and after a week spent on the neurosurgery ward at BCH he was able to come home.

Now at the age of seven he is a bright, happy and beautiful boy , we were so lucky to have the most wonderful care during his time in hospital and I would like to raise money in order to help other children and families who find themselves facing a similarly difficult time.
