Story
I do really well at gaining nicknames....I am exceeding one of them currently - "Kat Two-dinners"..... and I will tell you a "Bertie Smalls" story without even a few "Juicy" drinks. I am yet to gain a nickname whilst pedalling; This year I have the opportunity for that.
10 years ago I saw my dad die, I was crushed. This ride is part of me rebuilding. His nicknames were 'Nori' or 'Sweetie Pie'. This year I ride for him but mainly for me. To do something when my relatives, colleagues and friends keep having more in common : cancer.
I will ride over the Alps for 7 days from Geneva to Cannes with the Fireflies; over 1000km approx 620miles, climbing over 80,000ft.
This roughly works out a day as:
140km/85miles in distance
11,400ft/3500m of climbing
or a distance of 3.3 million feet. To short infinity and beyond! All your cash goes to the charity as I cover all my fees, flights and feedings.
The downside is going to be the physical pains, sweat, tears, snow blizzards, ridiculous sun tan lines, embarrassing medical afflictions, mental ordeals coupled with extreme exhaustion, throbbing hurty bits, emotional wobblies and 'hanger'. On the plus side is the laughing, joking, silliness, eating, freedom and adventure, the mountains, the escaping, the boozing, the comrades and the time out. So now I must ride....... and now we need your donations.......
'For those who suffer, we ride'.
This year we lost a great friend, Grant Branton, on my birthday and I will be riding to mark his love, courage and battle. Fellow Firefly Terry Bishop rode with us in remission but lost his life late last year. My half sister is battling cancer and I have so many stories of friends afflicted with cancer - I hope you can all dig deep into those pockets to honour them and this.
Please donate generously as I need the financial incentive and motivation - I am training come rain or come shine during night shoots and join this ride as a freelancer taking time out to do this.
By the way my metabolism is going to be ferocious, we will be burning 5,000 plus calories a day, doing the equivalent or more than a marathon a day each day.
And another thing ....... Bloodwise need a little whoop whoop recognition for the tireless efforts and dedication of their amazing people.
Love from "Kat 'F**k**g' Spencer" (don't ask!!), "Kitten", " Thumper", "Kamera Kat", "Dear heart", "Star"
xxxoooxxxxx big emoji kissing yellow face to youz all
