Story
Ok…..As most of you know Karilyn Owen, Paul (aka folo) Byrne and Stacie Shelton (depending on the recovery time of her wrist) will be undertaking the Mighty Winter 2009 Rickshaw Run.
For those of you who have no idea what this is even about, please follow this link to find out more http://rickshawrun.theadventurists.com/ but to put it bluntly we are taking on everything India has to throw at us (like we've not endured enough in the last 4, 7, and 3 years we've all been here!). We are doing this adventure in our favorite mode of transportation.. the rickshaw!
For those of you haven't been to visit us in India, a rickshaw is a 3 wheel beast of a machine or death trap! A 150cc, 3 seater (if you are counting the drivers seat!), lawn mower type vehicle! It supposedly has a top speed of approx 55kmph down hill and about half a horsepower being pumped out! This is what will take us from the southern part of India, across the mountains and to the other side of Bangladesh to Shillong India... over 3000 km (1700+ miles) in just 2 weeks!
Yes.. to answer the question in your mind.. we are insane! But we do it for a good reason.. charity!
The 2 charities we are supporting are Mercy Corps www.mercycorps.org.uk and Frank Water www.frankwater.com 2 very worthy charities. Please take some time to have a look at what great work they do around the world. This page is dedicated to fundraising for Frank Water - please also visit our other page at www.justgiving.com/karmakab to donate for our other charity Mercy Corps.
If we manage to raise our target of £2000 (USD 4000) then we will be putting the rest of your hard earned money to use with charities close to our hearts here in Mumbai - ones we have worked with directly. More info will come on those as we get close to reaching our mandatory target of 1000 pounds.
We have asked for very little while in India, but now we are asking you to please give generously for this great cause and to show your support to us as we embark on this insane (and a bit, err.. very dangerous) adventure! We will be paying the entrance fee, accommodation, food, gas, maintenance, etc on our own so that all of your donations go entirely to the charities!
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Frank Water will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor us now!
Many thanks for your support.
Karilyn, Paul & Stacie too
NOTE: To our US donors, the donations below are in UK Sterling, which is about double the US dollar, so don't get confused and give too much (hmm or maybe do give too much )
