Story

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

After supporting Rob for umpteen years at the Hastings Half Marathon he has entered us both this year as a husband and wife team!!!. I'm sure he doesn't know what he is letting himself in for, and will probably be dragging me most of the way!!! BUT, for motivation, I have decided to run for a charity that is very close to our hearts, which has greatly affected close friends and family over the past 3 months.

Grace (pictured) suddenly got critically ill in November 09 and was rushed to St. Thomas' Hospital. She was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome. Just one in 100,000 people get Guillain-Barre syndrome but only one in a million suffer so severe an attack as Grace. We had never heard of this rare disorder that attacks and destroys the nervous system and I'm sure you haven't too. I feel this is a good opportunity to raise awareness and raise money for a charity that has been highlighted by this special person.

Grace came into our lives through our son Sam. They started dating just before Grace became severely ill, almost immediately she was temporarily paralyzed and spent weeks on a ventilator. Over a period of 6 weeks, Sam made numerous visits to London, taking Grace's friends with him, which boosted Grace's confidence and helped her improve incredibly. Grace was transferred to Medway hospital by Christmas and although she's back at home now she continues with physiotherapy and day by day is slowly recovering. This is remarkable when we think back to November. We wish her all the best, and hope to raise some money in support.
