Hello there,

In October 2006, I will be travelling to the Amazon Jungle in Brazil to take part in the Jungle Marathon.  This is a 200km footrace through the jungle, where competitors will be expected to carry not only themselves through some of the most inhospital terrain, but also sufficient food, clothing and equipment to keep them going for 7 days.

There will be regular checkpoints where we will be supplied with water, and there will also be medical teams on duty to support us, but this is as much a challenge for survival for the 75 of us that will be taking part as well as being a race.

I will be raising money in aid of Kidney Research.  The reason for choosing Kidney Research, is that quite recently a very close friend of mine suffered complete kidney failure.  He is one of the lucky ones, in that in a fairly short time his brother became a live organ donor, and donated one of his own kidneys, but kidney disease, although affecting a large number of people is not well known about, and gets very limited funding for research meaning that alot of people have to spend 10-15 hours per week on dialysis, and in many cases are not well enough to work full time or travel.
