Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

This year I'm getting back on my bike to help raise awareness and money for Macmillan Cancer Support. I have registered for two big events.

On Sunday 7th July I am taking part in the
Etape du Tour, an amateur cycling competition that recreates the penultimate mountain stage (stage 20) of the 2013 Tour de France. Myself and approx. 13,000 other riders will depart from the banks of Lac d'Annecy in the Rhone-Alpes region of France and finish, 130km and 6 categorised mountain passes later, at the ski station of Annecy Semnoz. Hopefully my training to date will be sufficient for me to avoid the dreaded "broom wagon" - only time will tell. If not, then I will put it down as another training ride for my next event 4 weeks later…

On Sunday 4th August I will be taking part in the
Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100, the largest ever closed-road amateur cycling event to be held in the UK. Myself and over 20,000 other riders will depart from the Olympic stadium in Stratford and cycle through London to the country roads of Surrey (and hills of the North Downs!) before looping back and finishing 100 miles later on The Mall in central London.

These events will prove extremely testing for me and I anticipate one or two low points along the way. My motivation will simply be knowing that I have the support of friends and family and knowing that what I am feeling pales into insignificance compared to the challenge faced by cancer patients and carers on a daily basis.

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer by providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support and push for better cancer care. Cancer affects us all. We can all help. Donations, no matter how big or small, will help them care for even more people living with cancer.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please dig deep and sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.

Cheers,

Jon
