Story

When Rhys proposed to me on top of a 30ft boulder, and we toasted to a life time of adventures at our wedding, I knew marrying Rhys was going to mean only one thing; a lifetime of exploring.

Despite feeling like the apprentice most of the time, over the last few years I have spent the best part of my weekends harnessed up and hanging off sea cliffs, trekking up mountains and spending basically all annual leave on adventurous trips.

Those of you that know Rhys, will know he has an impressive background. He has already completed the Seven Summits Challenge and climbed the highest peak on every continent, reaching the summit of Mount Everest on his 20th birthday, making him a record breaker as the youngest person to do so.

Me, on the otherhand, I am not your typical climber or explorer, actually quite the opposite! Those of you that know me, know I am an adventurous person. Working for a travel company and spending so much time organising adventures for other people has made my urge to do something myself even stronger.

One night over dinner, Rhys dropped in to conversation that he would like to do the Arctic Trilogy expedition, and would like me to come along.

The aim of this expedition is to climb the three highest peaks in the Arctic Circle and the one unclimbed peak. The mountains are in a  extremely remote area, 4.5 hours by ski plane from the nearest habitation. We will be accessing the mountains by skis and pulling all of our provisions for 2 weeks on sleds.

At first I was very excited at the idea and wanted to start planning striaight away, and then the panic set in... We are actually going to do this?! It was at that moment that all sorts of questions started to enter my head.. Can I do this? How do I start training?  And the silliest one of all; how will I cope not being able to wash my hair for 2 weeks?! I know, the least of my worries!

So here we are, only a few months before the expedition, training most nights in the gym and looking at what kit we need for the challenge ahead. And no challenge would be complete without a very worthy cause behind it.

As both of us work for Camps International, Rhys as the Regional Director UAE/ MD of RJ7 Expeditions, and myself as Operations Manager in the UAE, we wanted to show our support to a charity very close to our hearts. The Camps Foundation supports local communtities and wildlife projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Knowing what a positive impact these projects have made we would like to do our part to support them by giving 100%. Those who benefit from these funds face great challenges every day of their lives, even going about the simplest of tasks, like collecting fresh drinking water.

This is a big challenge for both of us so please support us by donating to this wonderful charity. In line with the 100% promise, none of the money you donate will be spent on expedition costs.

Exploring the unexplored and being part of this challenge I hope will inspire ordinary people like myself that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
