Story
Jonathan Sindall, Nigel Lloyd-Jones and Harry Lloyd-Jones did something very silly this summer to raise money for the children of Sri Lanka, and blogged about it here.
This dashing trio entered the Lanka Challenge: racing a tuk-tuk 1,500km around Sri Lanka. Our team, Trinco & Back, competed against 27 other teams over a route that took us from the capital, Colombo, to Trincomalee in the NE (Jonathan once lived there, hence the team name), down the beautiful East coast to the Yala National Park, up into the hills of the tea country, downhill to Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth, and, finally, back to Colombo.
En route we camped in the jungle with a stone-age tribe, staying in very basic accommodation and being eaten by tropical insects (Harry wasn't totally prepared for this bit).
We drove our tuk-tuk for 10 days (OK, we got two days' rest. Big deal), from 28 August until 8 September. We came 14th, (could have been worse) and carried off the prize for the largest amount raised for charity.
Our team of two middle-aged men and one young whipper-snapper didn't only do this because they are stupid. They did it to give you, yes - YOU, an excuse and a reason to donate to the Save the Children, Sri Lanka.
The children of Sri Lanka need all the help we can give them. They have been used as child soldiers through 25 years of civil war (from as young as eight and half of them girls) and have been orphaned by both the civil war and the Pacific tsunami of 2004. They need housing, medical care and schooling - so that future generations of this beautiful island can live not just in peace, but in prosperity.
All the money you give goes to Save the Children, Sri Lanka, who are making life better for some of the nicest people you could wish to meet. Have a look at our pictures to see how.
So - read our blog here, and then, if you haven't already, dig deep and donate now.
Then go on holiday to Sri Lanka. You'll love it.
