What am I doing?

Next February, I will be cycling the length of Vietnam in the annual H2H charity bike ride. The route takes in around 2000 km between Vietnam's two biggest cities, traversing the highlands and lowlands, at all times in the sweltering heat.

 

Why am I doing it?

As a group, we're aiming to raise at least $30,000 for childrens' charities in Vietnam in order to give something back to what, for many of us, has become our adopted home.

 

Where is the money going?

Saigon Children's charity was founded to help vulnerable and disadvantaged children to get a fairer start in life through education and vocational training. It operates in and around Ho Chi Minh City and offers scholarships and vocational training to children who would otherwise not be in education due to poverty, disability, etc.

 

Your donations will specifically go towards two key projects:

 

Thang Long Vocational School is run by SCC in partnership with local government and currently has around 300 children between the ages of 12 and 19 who either cannot or do not attend mainstream public school and are directly affected by poverty. The school offers training in IT, office administration, hairdressing, English and opportunities to pursue photography, art, motorbike repair, florist training, accounting and hospitality. H2H will be supporting this ongoing vital work, creating opportunities, choices and brighter futures.

 

School scholarship urgent support fund. SCC currently enables around 3000 children to have access to schools by providing the necessary resources for them and their families. The urgent support fund provides extra support to the poorest of these in the event of a crisis or special need. The funds will support school materials, bikes to get to and from school, family provisions, uniforms, reading glasses, wheelchairs, extra tuition and whatever else is needed to ensure they can maintain their schooling and learn to their full potential.

H2H is entirely run by volunteers and cyclists cover their own expenses for the ride. Expenses for safety, fundraising and financial administration are kept to the essentials so that as much of your donation as possible can go straight to H2H's partner charities.
