Story

I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), which is a connective tissue disorder affecting collagen production in my body. I produce faulty collagen which causes my tissues to be too stretch and delicate. This means I suffer from constant pain and fatigue as my muscles fight to keep my joints in place. It affects every part of me from my hypermobile joints, to my digestive system, circulation and even my autoimmune system. Because if this I use a power wheelchair, rollator or stick to get around.

Dogs for Good do a fundraising event in October called "Dogtober", where people sign up to the challenge of walking 100km during that month. I really wanted to take part but obviously there was no way I could walk 100k; I can't even walk 100m! So I came up with the crazy idea that I could crochet 10km of yarn in a month instead!!

I am currently a puppy socialiser for Dogs for Good and just having the pup has changed my life. I go out more, I am less anxious, I have something to focus on and a sense of purpose which I lost when I had to give up working almost 2 years ago. If this pup can do that for me I can't beging to imagine the difference these dogs make to their human partners.

Dogs for Good believes in the power of dogs. Since 1988, Dogs for Good has been making life-changing differences for people with disabilities. The charity supports people with complex needs including physical disabilities, autism, dementia and learning disabilities enabling them to lead more independent lives through the help of trained dogs. They receive over 5,000 enquiries a year and it costs more than £22,000 to train and support each assistance dog. With your sponsorship, they can create more life-changing partnerships. Thank you.
