City 2 Surf Sydney · 24 May 2009
I'm running Sydney's 14km City 2 Surf, from the city to Bondi Beach, for the second time this year. Last year (www.justgiving.com/jenrunsforwill), my friends and family very kindly and generously helped me raise 1,400 GBP (AU$2,800) for the wonderful Naomi House Hospice in England, where they looked after beautiful baby Will. Son of my friends James and Jo, he died aged 9 months at the end of 2007. I was privileged enough to meet this little guy and anyone else who did would also tell you how special he was.
It has been a year and half since little Will died but we still think about him all the time and the need for Naomi House's services hasn't gone away. At a time when everyone is struggling financially, it's even harder for them to secure the donations they need to keep it running. But please try and imagine what you would do if you, or your friends, lost a baby and didn't know where to turn.
It's no easy race and there are a lot of hills but I will get to the end by reminding myself why I'm doing it, just like I did last year. I hope this will now be an annual fundraising event for Naomi House.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Naomi House Children’s Hospice (Wessex Children's Hospice Trust) gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
I will understand if my Australian friends don't feel obliged to donate to a UK charity and may prefer to give their money to a local facility instead (please do!), but on the off chance that you do still want to sponsor me, you can do so via this site with any credit card.
