Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my page.

My name is James & I have a wish to walk.

I was diagnosed with Spastic Deplegia a form of Cerebral Palsy last year which means I'm unable to walk. My mummy is trying to raise vital funds so i can have a operation that will make me walk. Unfortunately this operation is not available on the NHS :(

I need a operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy ( SDR ) which cost's £50,000 & specialist equipment to help improve my life.

It's been a very sad time for me & my mum who has been frantically been trying no the raise funds through various different charity events.

We've been in many newspapers & I was also on the BBC news in September 2014 which was very exciting. We have been inundated with messages of support & donations since being in the media which has been very overwhelming for my mum.

I'm hoping that my appeal will be a great success and I can have my life changing surgery & soon will be able to walk like my friends & kick a ball & run rings around my mum.

James was born 31st May 2012, 8 weeks early by emergency C-Section. James was immediately resuscitated and incubated then taken straight to the Neonatal Unit where he spend the first 5 weeks of his life.

Everyday James became stronger and stronger. Within 48 hours James was able to breathe for himself with a little help.

James is now 3 years old and is a very happy and smiley little boy. He never lets anything get in the way of his happiness.

We have  been in the newspaper a lot since April 2014 when we kick started the appeal & especially we have had some amazing support from the Daily Echo who have back his campaign.

We were also in Take a Break magazine on the 17th July ( issue 30 )

James has a standing frame and a walking frame which he has started to use a lot more recently. James still struggles on a daily basis due to the high tone in his lower limbs making it very difficult for him to walk and stand properly. To help ease the pain and spasms he gets on a daily basis he has four doses of Baclofen a day along with leg stretches to ease the stiffness his legs.  We know he will need Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) in the near future which will enable James to walk. Unfortunately this treatment not available on the NHS.

We went to GOSH on the 31st July 2014 to see a private Neurosurgeon called Mr Aquilina. We were informed that James was a perfect candidate for SDR surgery but unfortunately funding would be a major issue and we were advised to keep fundraising.

We need to raise about £50,000 for the surgery & therapy he will require after.

If you want to get in contact or can help in any way please email me on vickimills100@googlemail.com or phone me on 07583 753991. Thank you

Should we exceed the target amount (or if we do not raise enough funds, or if they cannot be used for any other reason) the funds raised will go to the general funds of Tree of Hope to assist other sick children.

Please help make my son's wish

He deserves a good life.
