Story

This is a memorial page for James O'Connell set up by his family. James died on Sunday 8 September 2013 at the age of 87 after a short period of illness.

We have set up a memorial fund to remember him - and to receive donations in lieu of funeral flowers. We would like the donations to be split between WaterAid and St Joseph's Hospice. The only way to do this on JustGiving is to set up two separate donation pages.

This page is for St Joseph's Hospice donations and the page for WaterAid donations can be found here #mce_temp_url#

James was diagnosed with bowel cancer just over two weeks prior to his death and quickly became very ill. In the final week of this life, James stayed at St Joseph's Hospice in Hackney, London  www.stjh.org.uk. The hospice cared for him incredibly well during this time and ensured that he was able to die peacefully, surrounded by his family.

Every single staff member and volunteer we met at the hospice was kind, caring and friendly both to James and to the whole family. Everyone there worked together to ensure that he was cared for both physically and spiritually. The hospice also created a warm and welcoming environment in which we, as a family, were able to spend the last days with him.

The hospice relies on charitable donations and we wanted to offer a way for James' friends and family to be able to support the hospice if they would like to.

The hospice works to meet the needs of all patients with cancer and other life limiting illnesses such as heart failure and Motor Neurone Disease, as well as the needs of their families and carers.

Many thanks for your support and donations.
