Story
In the beginning of May we were due to fly out to Nepal to volunteer in a hospital there. The recent earthquakes have left thousands dead and injured with much of the country's infrastructure disrupted. People in remote villages have been left stranded with no access to medical care.
Sadly for us our trip was cancelled as a result of the earthquake. However, we would like to raise money to help those affected, as we are unable to go ourselves. We are therefore going to cycle from York to Sicily over the next 40 days. This is a distance of over 3200km, including a little trans-alpine climb. Given Suleika has never done a bike ride of more than 25km this should prove suitably challenging (for our legs minds and of course bottoms!).
Médecins Sans Frontières is a neutral, impartial and independent medical charity which has been operating in Nepal since the first earthquake. They have been providing medical assistance, distributing food and shelter to remote areas, and have set-up an inflatable hospital in Arughat in Gorkha district, as well as temporary clinics elsewhere. They are currently assessing the damage done by the most recent earthquake, and are strengthening their emergency operations.90% of MSF funding comes from individuals, so even a small donation to help support them will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read this!
