The Duke of Edinburgh's Award has provided me with fantastic opportunities and I want to help other young people get involved without being restricted by costs. The DofE allows you to develop your physical, social and mental well-being through exercise, team work and personal challenges.
I've completed my Bronze and Silver Awards, and I'm now working on my Gold as well as going through the process of becoming a DofE Leader. Despite this I still want to take my journey through the DofE further, and get my Dad involved too!
We've run our Father-Son Reptile Roadshow before at a local pre-school charity and we're looking to take it further, this time touring around fayres and country shows to raise money for this great cause!
We aim to get children (and adults) involved by giving them the opportunity to handle Monte, our 10ft Albino Burmese Python and have their photo taken and printed by us as a keepsake. Lots of people have fears and it would be a bonus for us if we see people leave thinking the experience wasn't so bad! For young children, overcoming a fear or experiencing something that other people are fearful of (such as snakes) is an important step in becoming curious and confident.
Also as a student Biologist studying at the University of Southampton, there's also an educational aspect to the experience.
If you would like to support us in our Diamond DofE Challenge feel free to donate on JustGiving, or visit us on our Roadshow. Details of where and when we will be fundraising can be found here:
