Story
A 91 year old, adrenaline seeking Great- Grandad who has raised a lot of money for various charities - an absolute inspiration to the community - So please support Jack!
At 91 years old, Jack Dixon is by the far the oldest member to take part in a local children charity, Over The Wall’s, abseil event down The Spinnaker Tower. The event is being held on Saturday 20 April, where all money raised will allow children with a serious illness in the Hampshire area to attend the free, life changing Camps that Over The Wall provide.
Attracted by the ‘thrill’, Jack Dixon a 91 year old local man from Portsmouth cannot wait to take part in the 100m abseil from down the side of The Spinnaker Tower. You would think that most men of Jack’s age would have trouble getting to the top of the tower itself, but in Jack’s case, this is just a walk in the park to him! Jack has flown a plane, skydived and done endless amounts of work for other charities. He still works today, as a volunteer walk leader, guiding 10 walks a month. He is a keen member of a local Curling club and attends line dancing classes twice a week.
Jack has worked his whole life and still works today despite his age. He began working at the age of 14, and then joined the army in 1934. Since then, Jack has worked various roles such as an insurance agent, selling horse and cart insurance in the 1960’s. At the age of 65, Jack began working for The Portsmouth Housing Association, lifting, cleaning and acting as the handy man for the company.
Jack believes that keeping his mind ticking and keeping himself busy is what keeps him feeling young and energetic. A Father of 2, Grandfather to 5 & great grandfather to 3, Jack says that the money you donate, is for, ‘a great cause helping the seriously ill children.’ What a great sport – good luck Jack, you really are an inspiration to the community.
