Story
The Leamington and Warwick “Khalsa Aid” project team are asking for your help in the “Water for Africa appeal”. The aim is to raise £20,000 for an end to end project to provide a clean water supply for a community in Kenya.
The population of Ilkisanjani, Oloitoktok, Kenya have to collect water from over 10-15km away and in droughts it can be a lot further.
There are over 9500 people in this particular region of which 6500 have NO ACCESS to clean water. The project will supply water to 650 Households and 5 schools and 1 health facility and a newly constructed Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Rescue Centre.
It will serve the Maisuyati with a population of 2800, Shokut with a population of 2700 and Ilkisanjani with a population of 4000 and will benefit over 10,000 livestock in the area. The project is located in a semi-arid area, water access has been a major challenge.
Water will
1. Prevent thirst for both Humans and Livestock
2. Put an end to distance travelling in search of clean water
3. Improve Hygiene
4. Reduce Health Risks
5. Provide Water to the new FMG Rescue Centre as well as the existing Health Facility.
This is a very costly project but the people of this area will have guaranteed water for themselves and their livestock. This will ease many of the difficulties for the people who are in the high-risk drought zone. The total cost for this project is estimated to be around £15K to £20K however, the final total depends on the depth of good water. Khalsa Aid is working alongside the Divinity Foundation and Ramgharia Youth Association (Nairobi) on this project as local knowledge is essential.
We take it for granted when we can get up in the middle of night and fetch a glass of water for our children. I cannot imagine how it must feel if you are unable to do this. Please make a generous donation and help me achieve my target.
THANK YOU
