Firstly thank you for looking at our justgiving page.  We are running the British 10k in London on July 13th to raise funds for 'The Wessex heartbeat charity' at Southampton Hospital in the memory of Marc Powell,  a challenge that our family has never experienced before.   Marc was diagnosed with heart disease in 1982 and battled with his illness all through his life.  In February 2013 he was admitted to the Wessex cardiac unit at Southampton Hospital for life saving heart surgery,  by September Marc was still in Hospital and remained very poorly,  so a decision was made to operate one more time, sadly this proved just too much and he died during his operation on the 27th September 2013.  Marc was just 34 years old.

The Wessex heartbeat is a charity that gave Marc and his family so much support during his time in Hospital and they have also helped thousands of other young cardiac patients.  Heart disease is one of the UK's biggest killers among Children and young Adults, so the work carried out at The Wessex cardiac unit at Southampton Hospital is so important,  they are now recognised as an International centre of excellence dealing with all types of cardiac care and we can't thank all the medical staff on E4 ward enough for their dedication over the years.

Marc was a lovely lad and he touched many peoples lives, he always remained very positive considering his disability and loved being an Uncle to his two little Nieces.  He enjoyed his music, motor racing and loved going to watch his local football teams.
