Story
In September 2013,six of us completed another Arctic Trek. This time we went further north. Lapland borders Russia and Norway and the Vatsari Wilderness covers approximately 1800 sq km. We were dropped off by flying boat and the challenge was to make our way back through the wilderness. The shortest route had no cabins, i.e. full dependence on tents. It was alot of fun and hopefully with your continued help we can raise further fundst o help eliminate this dreadful condition.
I particularly wanted the money to go towards funding important research into this devastating illness. It takes people you love away from you right in front of your eyes. It did for our family. My father suffered from Alzheimer's. It's what it does to the close relatives that is so painful to witness. Watching my mother try and cope with his loss of memory and having to look after him as if he was a child. Many people describe losing a relative in this way as the long goodbye'. It really is very distressing. The problem is that at the moment there is no known cure and we are potentially going to see an increase in it's affects as the population gets older and more people are touched by dementia and alzhiemer's.
I am going to continue host a series of Cook for a Cure parties over the next year. I cook and you donate. Let me now if you would like to be included.
I am also completing two of the Three Peak challenges in 2014. The first is The Welsh 3,000's. Pen Y Fan, Cader Idris and Snowden.
The second will be the National Three Peaks, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden.
Many thanks for you donations. I will keep you posted on the progress
