Mission accomplished! I completed the marathon in 4 hours 31 minutes and 25 seconds, a new personal best for me. I'm really pleased as conditions were tough, it was hot and i'd had a restless night's sleep in my hotel. I felt fine for the first half but started to struggle in the heat at 18 miles and felt giddy at 20 miles, so I walked for a bit and took in some fluids. I suffered cramp over the last hour but the fanastic support helped me to the finish. Overall, a brilliant experience.
Thank you all very very much for your donations.
Five years ago, my wife Amanda fell ill and was eventually diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. She is now unable to work and one affect of the Fibromyalgia is that she needs an electric wheelchair to get about, although this is by no means the worst consequence of the condition.
I am running the London Marathon on 17th April 2011 in support of the Fibromyalgia Association UK. Fibromyalgia is a debilitating condition that causes extreme pain and fatigue. It is known as the 'invisible illness' as it can affect sufferers in many ways that are not visibly apparent. Few people have heard of it, so hopefully by doing this i can help raise awareness of it.
