Hello,
Thank you for thinking of sponsoring me to run the 2009 London Marathon for Help the Aged. I decided to run for Help the Aged after spending a summer working as a health care assistant with elderly people in their own homes.
I was surprised by the level of neglect, despondency and loneliness that some of these individuals faced. This is when I became interested in the work of Help the Aged, who not only campaign at government level for the rights and well being of the elderly, but also arrange practical help, both at home and abroad, to support them to live independently.
Did you know one in five pensioners in the UK lives below the poverty line? Help the Aged provides financial support and advice to older people to help them combat this poverty and achieve the basic living standards we all take for granted.
Help the Aged's 'HandyVan' fitters visited 34,000 homes in 2007-2008 to install security products, smoke alarms and carry out simple DIY jobs. Not only this, Help the Aged played a key role in responding to disasters in Bangladesh, Darfur and Myanmar, a role that is often over looked.
To me, just because an individual is older, does not mean that their intellectual or social needs are any less than our own. Running the Flora London Marathon 2009 is allowing me to raise both donations and awareness for Help the Aged.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Help the Aged gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. This means that for each £10 you donate, Help the Aged receives £11.90.
Please help me support the rights & well being of the elderly both at home & abroad.
Thanks again,
Best wishes,
Nathan Chapman
