Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am a 15 year old school boy who really enjoys playing and composing music.

The composing of “Hope Burns Bright” evolved out of a long journey of discovery in working out a melody that really appealed to me. The song was developed, recorded and produced at home and at my school and I really hope you enjoy listening to it.

I am really proud to say that my Grandad was involved in helping the homeless in the 60’s and worked with a Housing Aid Society that supported Shelter. He was telling me how Shelter gained many new supporters after the BBC produced a documentary drama called “Cathy Come Home” which shocked the nation at the time because it showed the terrible living conditions in many parts of Britain.

When I learned that my Grandad was involved so long ago as a volunteer supporting Shelter, I decided that I would like to follow in his footsteps and carry on his work in my own way. Shelter’s work today remains every bit as important as when it first started some 50 years ago. Today, 78,000 children in Britain are living in temporary accommodation with no permanent place to call home. In Britain, thousands of families live in accommodation that is damp, overcrowded or in severe disrepair.

You can listen to the song as many times as you like; just click on the "video" link below the photo and, if you feel you would like to make to donation to Shelter, then that would be wonderful. It is a little bit like on-line busking! - so £1 or £2 contributions are especially welcome.

There are many millions of people who donate money every year to good causes (most probably including yourself) and I have noticed from busking over the last couple of years that often those who seem least able to afford it, will dig deep to support a worthy charity. Those unassuming people who raise or donate money to help support others, often remain anonymous: yet these are the people who really make a difference to our world and make it a better place to live, and so I would like, anonymously, to dedicate the song to them.

I hope you enjoy the song. I am so grateful to a number of people who have helped bring “Hope Burns Bright” to life but a special "thank you" to P.G., Mrs G, W-S & Mr H and especially Mr M who worked so hard to produce the song.
