Thanks for visiting the Justgiving page for the event 'High Tea for Haiti'.
A few words about Haiti and why the Haitians so desperately need our help...
Even before the earthquake only 51-70% of Haitians had access to clean water and just 12-29% had access to sanitation. Infant mortality hovers around 65 per 1000 live births - to put it into context this compares to 43 in 1000 in Iraq and 4 in 1000 in the UK. Average GDP works out to $2 per person.
Poverty and political turmoil over decades has left the country destitute and dependent on aid.
Any natural disaster is catastrophic - for Haitians the situation is even more dire because of its already poor infrastructure and lack of resources.
So please dig deep, the value of your donation will not be shown - any amount will help. Money received goes to the Disasters Emergency Committee, an umbrella organisation for 13 charities including Oxfam, Save the Children, World Vision and Help the Aged.
Money raised at the event itself will be donated to Avaaz, a charity which works with a number of local charities in Haiti itself, staffed by local people delivering front line aid and longer-term assistance when world consciousness moves on.
For info on each of these charities visit: http://www.dec.org.uk/index.html or https://secure.avaaz.org/en/stand_with_haiti/
Thanks!
