Everest 2010 - The On April 3rd I will travel to via where I will begin an 8848m (29,082 ft) journey to the summit of via the – a route which is technically more challenging than the traditional and more popular south side of the mountain. The summit ‘window’ will likely be around the 3rd week of May when the normally 120+mph jet stream wind is pushed northward by the arrival of the monsoon. The entire journey will take anywhere from 60 – 70 days. The expedition a tremendous undertaking and likely the biggest challenge – both physically and psychologically - that I will ever take on. A strict fitness regime, technical climbing and safety courses in Scotland, as well as climbing Mera Peak in the Himalayas and cycling 7750kms across Canada in 2008, and finally a climb to Aconcagua in the Argentine Andes over Christmas 2009 have been just part of the journey. The biggest challenge now lies ahead...Following the progress:
On the mountain I will keep a blog of my progress – I’m not sure how easy or difficult it will be to maintain but I shall certainly try and keep you posted. You can follow me on http://www.heathergeluk2.blogspot.com/ or, with any individual questions, you’re welcome to contact me on hgeluk@hotmail.com
I would like to thank each and every one of you for your interest and support as I continue on this journey to the summit of and raise awareness for this extremely worthwhile cause.
