Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

I intend to run the London Marathon (26.2 miles) on the day of my 21st Birthday in April 2008. This is an achievement I have aspired to for many years and feel that now is the right time in my life to undertake the challenge. I have time on my hands whilst at University to put in 100% effort to the training which I began on 1st September 2007.

The Charity I am raising money for is local and personally related. The Anna Trust was founded in 1993 following the death of Anna Douglas-Pennant from cystic fibrosis at the age of 14. Since then it has given approximately £750,000 towards research into this life threatening disease, which affects the lungs and digestion. Cystic fibrosis is the most common inherited condition in Britain affecting approximately 7,000 children and young adults. It is life threatening and currently there is no cure. The charity has concentrated its funds into research for the benefit of those with well developed cystic fibrosis, ie young adults such as Anna’s sister Milly (aged 27 currently suffering from the same disease). The current research, the ‘Infection Detection project’, is making exciting progress and gaining international interest. Using new DNA analysis techniques to identify the bugs in the chest, the aim is to treat infections with fewer and more accurate drugs, making the treatment more effective and beneficial to patients, and also saving NHS money. Over £450,000 has so far been raised towards the goal of £500,000 and I am hoping that my marathon run will substantially contribute to this target.

I am writing to you to ask for sponsorship as it was my friend Johnnie, Milly and Anna’s brother, who died of unrelated causes in September 2004 and this is my way of giving something back to him and his family. They are a local and deserving family and I would be grateful for any contribution towards my run for the Anna Trust.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Anna Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.
