Story

1 in every 250 UK babies dies before birth (stillbirth), and
around the world 2 million babies are stillborn every year. This is
devastating for every single family, and will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

There is so much that is still unknown about stillbirth. But thanks to funding from Tommy’s, the largest UK charity researching causes and
prevention of pregnancy complications, researchers at the Maternal and Fetal Health Research Centre (MFHRC), University of Manchester are helping to win the fight against baby loss. Thanks to Tommy’s-funded research and innovations, the Manchester Stillbirth rate has reduced by 19% since 2015 and the Rainbow clinic model (providing care for families in pregnancy after baby loss) is being rolled out nationwide.

This Baby Loss Awareness Week 2021 (9th-15th October 2021) I have decided to put my trainers back on to support Professor Heazell and his team in Manchester to help save babies lives and to give awareness of Baby Death especially from a Dad.

This month is also Kallipateira's 3rd Birthday on October 26th . Our precious and much loved daughter was stillborn at 37 weeks and it was a fully preventable death.

After completing my history making Rhodes Extreme challenge walk in August I didn't think id be putting my trainers back so soon but seeing the team in Manchester step up to Stillbirth I had to get my trainers back out.

I am still recovering from Rhodes especially my skin on my feet and emotionally.  I am not in the top condition that i was in Rhodes but the whys are what keep you going !

Trooper Lane is a short, steep cobbled climb in Halifax. It makes a good claim to be the toughest cobbled climb in the Yorkshire area – possibly the whole of England.

Trooper Lane

  • Distance: 0.4 miles
  • Average gradient: 18%
  • Height gain: 125 metres
Many cyclists have described it as hell.

I have decided to walk Trooper Lane..
Not once . Not twice . Not three times .
I will be walking trooper lane FIFTY ( 50 ) times in a row.

This will be a tough challenge and it also depends on how my feet and legs hold up so soon after Rhodes.

Ive set a £500 target to help save babies lives with all funds going to Alex and his research team in Manchester.  I appreciate many donated to Rhodes but if you please donate sonething it would be appreciated.
Any vocal support on the day would be appreciated and if you fancy doing some with me your company would be appreciated.
