Help, I seem to be doing a triathlon!
Despite not much training at all, wet-suited and swimming-capped, I
will be front crawling 750m through the Thames trying to keep my mouth closed on Saturday 1st August. Then cycling 21k. Then running 5k. Not really that worried about the 5k.
I'm aiming to raise £800 for the
World Development Movement, my favourite charity, which I also happen to work for. www.wdm.org.uk
Please sponsor me!
The World Development Movement (WDM) has a vision of a world where everyone has the right to a decent life. A world where governments and corporations act in the interests of people not profit. Sponsor me and help me raise money to fund WDM campaigns which challenge the powerful whenever they screw over the poor.
An example of the sort of thing WDM does:-
WDM is taking the UK government to court. This is over its decision to turn a
blind eye to the Royal Bank of Scotland's dodgy investments. Now that RBS is 70% owned by the taxpayer, WDM is calling for it,
and all other banks to be required to act in the public interest, not
just in the interest of short-term profit. It's the least they could do, non?
RBS regularly invests in
projects that cause environmental damage (e.g. they loaned $1 billion to Trafigular, a commodity trader whose ship dumped toxic waste waste off the Ivory Coast, killing
17 Ivorians and injuring over 30,000 more), contribute to climate change and
support despotic regimes . They don't just sponsor rugby matches, they like to think of themselves as THE 'Oil and
Gas Bank’.
Read more about all this in the
Financial Times if you're interested....
Any amount you can sponsor me will make a real difference. Also, WDM will get a third extra on top of your donation from Gift Aid
.
Thank you v.much :-)Caroline x
