I will be running the 2012 Adidas Half Marathon, (13.1 miles), around the Silverstone Formula One track on Sunday 11th March.  I am aiming to raise as much money as possible for the 'In Your Hands Appeal', set up by the Penine Acute Hospitals Charity, (Registered Charity Number 1050197).

The appeal aims to raise money for a purpose built women and children's facility at the Royal Oldham Hospital, including a new neonatal intensive care unit, and equipment such as incubators, specialist neonatal cots and ultrasound scanners.  More detail can be found by clicking the link below.

Why am I raising money for this appeal?

When I was born I experienced complications due to a lack of oxygen to my brain.  As a result I spent the first days of my life inside an incubator and was given a 50/50 chance of survival, with a 50/50 chance of suffering severe disabilities if I did survive.  I'm pleased to say that I survived the odds thanks to the staff and resources on the special care baby unit at Birch Hill Hospital in Rochdale.

Recently, the special care baby unit moved from Birch Hill in Rochdale to the Royal Oldham Hospital, and I want to give something back to those who helped me.  I am so grateful to all the staff who worked in the Special Care Baby Unit at that time, and would like to repay them by raising money for the appeal.
