Story
Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page. My research is all about patient experiences of bariatric surgery. I am committed to supporting people who choose bariatric surgery as a means of weight loss and to improve illnesses associated with obesity. Undergoing bariatric surgery is not an easy decision, it significantly affects peoples' lives, as they learn to adjust to new ways of eating, social relationships and living with changes that bariatric surgery brings. These adjustments are not widely understood by others, which can make life difficult for our patients. Bariatric surgery doesn't just change lives, it saves lives. It is an effective method of weight loss, it is not cheating or a waste of NHS money as some people wrongly think.
My research aims to support patients in their bariatric surgical journeys, highlight their experiences to support others and to provide a greater understanding of what patients go through, to lessen the judgements, and make the world a more bariatric-friendly place.
I am supported in my research at CHSFT by the bariatric team, research and innovation department, and Trust management - we all have the shared vision of 'excellence in health and putting patients first' - my research is proof of this.
Please consider supporting me in my abseil - I'm terrified of heights, but I'll rise to the challenge - just as our bariatric patients do!
