Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Our Izzy was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in January 2017, 3 days before her second birthday.  She suffered treatment for for over two years, finally ringing the end of treatment bell in May 2019.

She was able to start school in September 2019, and life was getting back to normal when, shortly after covid restrictions kept her out of school in April 2020, she developed pain in her legs. We thought this might be overzealous trampolining, however blood tests revealed this was her leukaemia relapsing.

Izzy was quickly on another course of chemo. Treatment was paused in August 2020 when her immunocompromised body developed a nasty infection that put her in intensive care.  Luckily the leukaemia doesn't seem to have returned with the delays, and we will shortly (November 2020) be discovering what the next stages of treatment entail.

Izzy's treatment is delivered by Birmingham Children's Hospital, and Worcester Acute Hospitals Trust, at our local Worcester Royal Hospital.

This page has been set up following some unexpected publicity regarding a ballet dance and some TV news slots.

Donations made on this page will go towards the Worcester Acute Hospital's "Children of Worcester Oncology Fund".  The charitable fund is used to support families of children with cancer in the area, and fund additional training for hospital staff to improve services to children with cancer.

We have benefitted from the fund in the form of parent meet ups, which are great for sharing stories and experiences, making the whole having a child with cancer thing feel a bit more normal, kids Christmas parties, and of course the occasional gift from the treat cupboard for Izzy when we have arrived at the hospital, late and unprepared following an untimely temperature spike.  We hope in future more staff will be able to have ballet lessons.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

If Izzy's story, or Emma and Baylon's dancing has touched you, and you would like to help Baylon (our consultant), Emma (a member of the play specialist team, who always brightens up Izzy's face) or Dawn (our Oncology Specialist nurse) help other children in the future, please donate a few pounds here. It will help children with cancer in Worcestershire.
