Thanks for supporting our fundraising for MacMillan Cancer Support!

Each year the West Midlands Combined Authority have a team of colleagues who raise money through the Great Birmingham Run and this year we have more runners than ever! 

We have chosen to support MacMillan this year due to many of us who have sadly experienced cancer with family and friends and we were sadden by the passing of our great friend and colleague, Linda Forbes, who sadly passed away with cancer over the Christmas period.

Linda was a driving force in establishing the Energy Capital team at the WMCA. Linda was a force of nature and always had an inspiring tale to tell from her expansive career, spanning the Merchant Navy, Publishing, Wave Energy, Energy Systems, Passiv House Design and most recently Retrofit. 

Humble to the end, Linda requested no funeral or flowers and we hope to raise money for MacMillan in the hope that other families can be supported throughout their cancer journey. 

Macmillan gives people with cancer everything they’ve got. If you’re diagnosed, your worries are Macmillan’s worries. Macmillan’s doing whatever it takes. But without your help, Macmillan can’t support everyone who needs them. 

To put into context, £6,700 could fund a Macmillan Nurse based at a hospital across the West Midlands for 1.3 months. Alternately, it could fund 19 financial grants to people living locally who are struggling with the extra costs that come with a cancer diagnosis such as travelling to appointments or extra heating. By doing this challenge and donating, you’ll be making a real difference to peoples lives.
