Bishop of Winchester’s Christmas Appeal
This Christmas the Bishop of Winchester is asking for donations to Winchester Hospice, as part of the effort to raise over £2.5 million to renovate Burrell House in the grounds of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital and turn it into a hospice. Once completed, Winchester Hospice will be the home of the palliative care team, providing compassionate and specialist care for up to 10 inpatients as well as patients in hospital and in their own homes. Currently there is no hospice provision in the area, and patients requiring hospice care and services travel to Andover, West End or Basingstoke. This is an opportunity for all parts of the Diocese to support one area which lacks this vital health care service.
Winchester Hospice will provide inpatient beds offering local specialist palliative and end of life care for patients with life limiting illnesses, and their families. It will also offer therapy, day services and outpatient facilities. The Bishop’s Christmas Appeal aims to raise funds to support this vital work, enabling a new Hospice and Home service to provide overnight care and support for those most in need in the Winchester area.
