Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am planning on swimming the English channel in June 2023. The swim is 21 miles (nearly 34km) and takes on average 15 hours. During that time i will not be able to get out or even touch the support boat. To make it an officially recognised swim I will not be wearing a wetsuit despite the water temperature being around 16 degrees.
Since Mathew Webb swam the channel for the very first time in 1875, just 1,831 people have successfully completed the swim. This shows just how hard this challenge is when compared, for example, to climbing Mount Everest. Mount Everest is another huge task in which many people loose their lives each year, however despite the risks and the challenge over 6000 people have now successfully summited.
I am raising money for the Mlambe Project to build class rooms for children. £10,000 is enough to build a whole new class room for the school, hopefully "The Channel Classroom".
I will be paying for the full channel swim myself, all your money will go straight to the charity.
Preparing to swim the channel has been a huge undertaking. Over the winter i spent 9 hours a week swimming and 4 hours a week in the gym to get ready for the summer season. In the summer i completed a 6 hour training swim in the UK and a charity swim in Greece swimming 12km between two Greek islands. And that is just me, my family have spent hours sat on the beach at Bournemouth watching me slowly swim from left to right... and back again!
