Story

On the 24th January 2020, our family's very close friends lost their son Billy to Osteosarcoma. He'd been diagnosed with it two years ago at the age of 15 having had cancer twice before as an infant. In spite of the difficult circumstances, Billy was remarkably strong throughout this period and continued to remain positive in spite of everything that he went through. We wanted to raise money for Bone Cancer Research in the hope that the donations goes towards life-saving treatments for others going through the same thing as Billy. Tuppence: "One of the things I greatly admired about Billy was the fact that he was a very kind person who stood up for the things he believed in." To raise money for this trust, we have decided to walk the Worcestershire Way - a distance of 31 miles - in one day. Honesty: " I've been friends with Billy for forever. I saw him right up to the end and I could not have met a stronger person. No one should have to go through what he did and I want to do what I can to help others that are dealing with what he dealt with. I miss him everyday and I wish that I could tell him that. I always think back to his parties especially his 16th and 17th birthdays which I will never forget... with his DJ skills and dancing! He was always a tech master and when I went to see him at the Acorns Hospice, he told me all about his massive Amazon shopping spree and showed me his headphones, laptop and other headphones in great detail! Since his funeral, we've stayed in contact with the family and I love seeing his younger brother, Leo who always talks about Billy and just reminds me of how great a person he was. Billy's whole family has been so strong and an inspiration to me and to other families going through similar times. This walk is just as much for them as it is for Billy and the Trust." Billy we miss you and hope you are at peace in heaven with all your favourite tunes and looking down at us with fondness. You will always be a big part of our lives and hearts and we will never forget you.

The Bone Cancer Research Trust is dedicated to saving lives & improving outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer. Despite being small, they fund more research projects exploring primary bone cancer than any other organisation. Other large UK cancer research charities do not prioritise bone cancer patients, in 2019 just 0.028% of their research spend went to bone cancer – not even close to 1%!Last year alone, Bone Cancer Research Trust committed an incredible £807,824 to pioneering bone cancer research - to save lives!
