Story
We are taking donations and encouraging folk to join our torchlit walk through Stromness on Saturday 26 October, when South Mainland Up Helly Aa 2019 Jarl Liam Mullay and his squad will lead their galley, the Stromness RBL Pipe Band and participating torch bearers from the Pierhead to Ness, where a peedie galley will be lit to give winter a warm welcome to Stromness as part of our Orktoberfest celebrations.
Registration for the walk is between 4pm and 4.30pm on Sat 26 October at the Ferry inn Stromness, where the SMUHA galley will also be available for photographs. Those wishing to participate should ensure that their contact details are available - tick the box to share with the organiser. Minimum donation is £10 per person. Instructions for the walk will be emailed to your contact address, as well as being available at registration. Young persons under the age of 14 must be accompanied. Participants are advised to wrap up warm and wear hat and gloves. All will participate at their own risk. Please note the street will be closed to traffic, meaning those arriving by car should park up from the pier northwards if possible.
Registration for torches can also be made at CLAN in Victoria St, Kirkwall and at The Royal Hotel, Stromness.
