Story
Many of you will have met our quiz master and also our very first delivery driver Rob. He sadly passed away from Pancreatic Cancer on 25th July. Rob has been a valuable asset to our company as well as providing a world class quiz night experience, he tirelessly worked throughout lockdown helping us get food orders delivered to our customers as well as offering his time to help deliver food for our charitable causes.
Rob, as well as being Jamie (one of the owner's) dad became an extremely close colleague of all staff at The Dead Pigeon and we want to do something epic in his memory and raise some money to the charity that was close to his heart. In August we will be walking 31 miles as part of Pancreatic Cancers 31 Miles in 31 Days from our Pub in Rochester to our favourite brewer and tap room / tank bar; Howling Hops in Hackney Wick.
UPDATE TO OUR FUNDRAISING 01/08/21:
Robert's 90 year old father Derek will be walking 1 mile per day throughout August and will be donating £31.00.
We are looking to raise £10,000 to help aid pancreatic cancer UK in providing valuable support to people who are suffering this terrible disease as well as providing funding for research & campaigning.
Any amount you could donate would be greatly appreciated. All throughout August we will have a donate button available on our website as well as donate options on our tills. (our staff won't pester you to donate so if you wish to please let them know at the bar.)
We have donated £5000 from ourselves and we hope to raise the same again to bring our total to £10,000.
Note from the charity:
It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within 3 months. Survival rates have improved enormously for most cancers, yet for pancreatic cancer, this is not the case. Pancreatic Cancer UK is dedicated to taking on this injustice using every possible means. They're supporting people with pancreatic cancer now, campaigning, and funding vital research to transform the future. Help them to make the breakthroughs that people with pancreatic cancer so desperately need.
