Story
In December 2015 George was diagnosed with Bowel cancer, with secondary cancer in his liver and lymph nodes. After intensive treatment, and in typical George style, he used his disease as a means to challenge his friends to get back on their bikes and participated in the RIDE 100 - this was the beginning of our fundraising campaign . He wanted to raise awareness, and much needed resources for this often misdiagnosed and under-funded form of cancer.
After a heroic and inspirational journey, George peacefully died on November 18th 2016. Whilst on his bike, his mantra was "don't stop spinning" and he was determined that his death wouldn't be in vain. He didn't ask for much before he died but in one conversation he said "get me a million, get one million pounds for Bowel Cancer in my name."
It is relatively uncommon for someone at the age of 34 to be affected by bowel cancer, despite the fact that it's the second biggest cancer killer in the UK. Tragically, and so easily, the symptoms of tiredness, and weight loss, can often be attributed to having a young family, and a long commute. George should be a lesson to us all in staying positive, keeping healthy and not being afraid of making that appointment to see your doctor.
Be Aware, Beat it ( and always ask yourself what would George do!)
Love Louise, Charlie & Jamie
