Story
In 2016 I was given the diagnosis of Bladder Cancer and this had a massive impact on every aspect of my life. I received amazing support and care from all departments in Southmead Hospital from when I had Chemotherapy, Radical cystectomy Surgery, and then working so closely with the Psychology team, who helped me find my feet again. A Clinical Psychologist has been wonderful support for me and helped me massively with the everyday issues. It has been given me so much hope for the future and I wanted to say thank you in some way.
In the four years since my diagnosis I have become an avid open water swimmer and long distance Walker and so decided that I would walk from my home in Weston-Super-Mare to Southmead Hospital on October 17th. It is around 25 miles and will take 8 hours to complete.
I wanted to raise some money for the Psychology Department in particular to say thank you for the help they gave me, as the emotional toll taken on a person who goes through such a diagnosis and having life changing surgery is immensely difficult.
I also hope to inspire others who have gone through similar experiences and know that there is always hope.
I will be walking with my friends Nick and Laura who will be keeping my spirits up through out the walk aswell as getting support from my Wife and Son.
