Story
I'm taking on the Aspire Channel Swim 2019, swimming the distance of the Channel over 12 weeks to raise money for Aspire. Every eight hours someone is paralysed by a Spinal Cord Injury and Aspire provides the essential equipment, advice, housing and grants that spinal cord injured people need to live their lives independently.
This is a big challenge for me. I don't swim much. I find it difficult with my cumbersome frame and I am very self-conscious about my body. I feel unattractive every day and find it hard even to look at myself in a mirror; the very act of going to a public swimming pool and getting into my trunks is a hurdle for me to get over. But compared to the challenges that people with Spinal Cord Injury face every single day, this is pitiful self-indulgence on my part. So I'm going to get over myself and swim several times every week for the next 4 months.
Please give with joy in your heart. What are you going to spend your money on which is more important than helping people who need your help? The more you give, the more of a difference you'll make, so please be generous.
