Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Having already undertaken some long-distance cycle rides across Canada in 2017 and from John O’Groats to Land End in 2018, it was during 2019 that I challenged myself to cycle around the UK coastline of England, Wales and Scotland. The route I have planned currently extends to some 5,266 miles. I had originally planned to start this in the Spring of 2020 following my decision to take early retirement but COVID 19 then arose forcing me to postpone my ride.
In conversations with friends and family, it has been suggested to me more than once that if I am so set on undertaking such a ride, then why don’t I seek sponsorship to help support a charity.
It was on 30 July 2020 that my brother-in-law, Tim Jackson, died from Cancer. Tim and his family received such wonderful care and support from the whole team at St Giles Hospice in Lichfield, who only receive one third of their annual running costs of £10 million pounds per annum directly from the NHS, with the remaining two thirds having to be raised by them, mainly through their fundraising in the local community. I cannot think of a more worthy cause to try and raise some money for than St Giles Hospice in Lichfield.
It is my intention to set out on my ride on 1 April 2022 (April Fool's Day, which according, to my wife Carolyn, is very apt as she thinks I am mad for wanting to do this in the first place!) cycling between 50-70 miles a day, 6 days a week over a 14-week period.
