Story
My beautiful daughter Imogen was born on the 21st May 2016 as a healthy 6 pound 6 ounces baby. At 3 days of age she was taken to a hospital who sent her home after suggesting she just had a lot of mucus. The next day she was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital where she was diagnosed with Group B Strep Meningitis. Imogen was treated for the following 9 days in a high dependency unit and a further 12 days with hospital at home.
Group B Streptococcus is the UK's most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies and of meningitis in babies under age 3 months. On average in the UK - one baby a day develops group B Strep infection- one baby a week dies from group B Strep infection- one baby a fortnight who survives their group B Strep infection is left with long-term disabilityYet most group B Strep infections are preventable. Group B Strep Support informs families & health professionals about group B Strep to save tiny lives.
As a proud father I want to run the Birmingham half marathon to hopefully increase awareness for Group B Strep.
