We are a mental health charity commited to supporting people in their recovery

Story

Hello!

We’re Simon and Sinead and we are running the 2018 London Marathon for Mosaic Clubhouse, a mental health charity based in Brixton.

At Mosaic Clubhouse we offer support for people aged 16 and over, living with severe and often enduring mental health problems. What makes Mosaic Clubhouse special is that members and staff work side by side to run the organisation together! We are purposely understaffed, so all tasks we ask members to do are important and fundamental to running  the service. Members can get involved in all aspects of the charity from working on reception, running our fantastic café, supporting our administration and finance activities and delivering workshops and classes for the benefit of their peers.

Working together in this way enables members to feel valued, regain their confidence and to lead productive and satisfying lives.

Last year, 708 members worked alongside 14 support workersWith 84 members using the service per day!

Simon: In my early thirties my mental health really declined and I had to spend some time in hospital. For many years, even though I had a better understanding of my mental health condition, I felt very alone and mostly stayed at home. My GP referred me to Mosaic Clubhouse and I have been a member for the last year. At Mosaic, I feel like I have somewhere to go where I can contribute and feel needed. I enjoy working in the cafe - helping to prepare the food and serve customers. At Mosaic there always new opportunities - like running the marathon! I’ve never done anything like this before but I am excited and the staff are helping me with my training.

Sinead: I am one of the support workers at Mosaic Clubhouse. The best thing about working at Mosaic is working alongside the members and supporting them to build their confidence and identify their strengths and talents. Working in the Employment and Education team I get to help members plan for their futures and achieve their educational and employment goals. I’m really proud and excited to be running the marathon with Simon and raising money for Mosaic Clubhouse!

It costs £1,270 per member per year to run Mosaic Clubhouse, with a cost per contact hour of £11. £2,500 will therefore provide over 225 hours of support!

If you can, please sponsor us to help offer a non clinical, non judgmental and supportive space to individuals living with mental health conditions.
