What are we doing?
On the 12th October 2016 we are setting out on a challenge to walk 630 miles(1014km) from Minehead in Somerset to Poole harbour(nr. Bournemouth) in Dorset, via the rugged and dramatic southwest coast path.
Along the way we will climb over 35,000m(115,700ft) and cover some of the toughest sections of the U.K. coastline, experiencing the harsh weather conditions of the Great British winter! All this is in aid of raising as much money and most importantly awareness as possible for our chosen charity. (Mind) - Mental Health Charity.
Why are we doing it?
Mental Illness directly affects 1 in 4 people in England in any given year. Both of our families have been directly affected and judging by the statistic this extends to many of you as well. we understand the stigma and prejudice that still surrounds mental Illnesses. By raising as much awareness for this cause as we possibly can, we hope to give people the confidence to talk more openly about this subject without feeling judged.
We both strongly believe that the great outdoors can benefit the mental and physical wellbeing of everyone especially those with mental health issues. These beliefs are supported by a rapidly growing body of scientific evidence in this field.
Who we are doing it for?
Therefore it seems perfectly fitting to raise as much recognition and funds as possible for (MIND) Mental Health Charity. There continued efforts in mental health have already helped hundreds of thousands across the U.K using a variety of approaches from telephone helplines, to more direct regional projects and therapies. However there is still many more who could benefit from their support.
MIND is a U.K based organisation so all the money raised will get distributed throughout the country to gain as far a reach as possible.
For more information on their tireless efforts, please check out: http://www.mind.org.uk/about-us/what-we-do/
Seth and I are also entirely funding the trek ourselves. Therefore every penny raised will go directly to the charity!
Any help and support would be much appreciated by both myself and Seth!
Wish us luck as we may need it! :)
