A week prior to it starting, Coronavirus resulted in the cancellation of the 9 month 2020 Scholarship programme. We hope to raise funds that will enable the 2020 Scholars to undertake their education in 2021 and support them in the difficult interim.

Story

We will be completing a 115km fundraising hike, over 4 days through the Lake District from St Paul's Church, Witherslack in the south to St Kentigern's, Keswick in the north

We will be walking church to church, to explore the local materials, architecture and history, documenting these through our own sketches on route at each of the 16 churches.

Highlights will include John Ruskin's Grave at St Andrew's in Coniston, Stained glass window design by William Morris, Edward Burne-Jones and Ford Madox Brown at Jesus Church in Troutbeck and the 2019 John Betjeman award winner St Oswald's in Grasmere.

We are undertaking the hike between the 2nd September to 5th September 2020.

We are fundraising for the Dance Scholarship Trust (named after Harry and Monica Dance, for more information please see the following link: http://www.dancescholarshiptrust.org.uk), which supports and funds an intense 9 month traveling scholarship, provided by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (for more information on the scholarship, please see the following link: https://www.spab.org.uk/learning/scholarship ). The Scholarship is for Architects, Engineers and Building Surveyors in the conservation of historic buildings, who are passionate about the protection of built heritage and the promotion of traditional craft skills.

Each of us were awarded a place on the scholarship for 2020, however due to coronavirus the scholarship has been postponed for the first time in over 60 years. We will therefore be raising funds to ensure that we are able to undertake this scholarship in 2021.

We would be extremely grateful for any sponsorship that you may be able to offer and will keep you updated throughout the walk through our Instagram account @spabscholars2020-2021.

Thank you in advance

Amy, Libby and Lucy
