Story
Thanks for visiting our Yorkshire Marathon fundraising page.
As a novice runner and an over-confident half marathon completer, the 26.2 miles will not be easy! We’re determined to get round and are going to need all the support we can get. It’ll be a challenge but with your help it’ll all be worth it for the money we raise. We are running for Mary Lysiak.
Being diagnosed with cancer means facing new realities every day. It affects everyone close to you. Mary and her family courageously faced the reality of cancer following her diagnosis in September 2017. Mary’s daughter Heather is our close friend (and Sam’s even closer girlfriend) and together, Mary and Heather suggested that we fundraise for Macmillan because of the amazing support they provide at all moments of the cancer journey. Whilst Mary and Heather feel blessed to have the closeness and support of a loving network of family and friends, they recognise the scary reality that some people have nobody to face the journey with. Amongst many things, Macmillan make sure that nobody has to face cancer alone.
Mary passed away in April of this year. Research shows that by 2020, nearly half of people in the UK will develop a form of cancer in their lifetime. We will do Mary proud on 14th October when we run/walk/crawl across the finish line because the money raised in her memory will help other people like Mary, Mary’s family, us and you to face the cancer journey.
£10 could keep 5 Macmillan information centres stocked for 1 day with literature to support people affected by cancer.
£30 could fund a Macmillan Nurse for 1 hour, allowing them to provide specialist medical, emotional and practical support. This includes administering chemotherapy, providing individual advice and discussing plans for the future.
£50 could cover a Macmillan grant, allowing someone with cancer to have equipment or afford extra bills to live well in their own home, or contribute towards a trip for a family to spend precious time together.
£100 could help keep the Macmillan Support Line running. The Macmillan Support Line is made up of teams who can clarify medical jardon, discuss treatment options, advise on pain management, seek advice on financial matters or are there if you just want a chat. In 2016 the Macmillan Support Line responded to nearly 150,000 calls and web enquiries.
Thank you!
