Story
I have finally bitten the bullet and decided on what my fundraising challenge is going to be to honour my Mum and to fundraise in her memory, and it couldn't be in a better more suitable place than Snowdonia itself.
I am taking on the GB Ultras Snowdon 50 ultra Marathon in September 2018. A 50 mile mountain ultra in Snowdonia which includes 4 big mountain climbs, including climbing up and down Snowdon itself. All this has to be completed within a 24hr time limit and with roughly 17,000ft of climb in total.
The event itself has official recce runs on route and I was extremely fortunate that two of them were on the 2nd and 3rd of June, the 2nd of June being the first anniversary of my Mum sadly passing away.
I recently spent the week with my Dad in Wales around this date in order to attend the recce/training runs and get to grip with the route and the challenge itself.
It was also important to be in the area around this date in order to visit my Mums spot where her ashes are spread on the hillside overlooking Llyn Padarn, Llanberis and indeed Mt Snowdon itself.
I won't lie, it was tough and it is a big ask of my body to be able to do 50 miles , never mind all the soul destroying leg sapping climbs, and likely some of it in the dark in the middle of nowhere on difficult terrain.
I did manage to cover 91 miles over the weeks training and near on 25,000ft of climb overall, I did this mostly by fast hiking along with the running spells as this will be an important tactic on the day itself. I have left with some hope and confidence. But doing it in 24hrs?...
I hope you can support me along the way and help me honour my Mum by raising a decent amount for the two charities I am fundraising for....
This page is one of two fundraising pages for A Return to Snowdon - in honour of my Mum. To do it for two charities I need a different page for each charity, but they are all linked to the main 'What Would Mum Do?' fundraising page and total which is the ongoing fund raising legacy in honour of my Mum 'WWMD - What Would Mum Do?'.
This page is for the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team donations only as it is a much needed voluntarily staffed mountain rescue team that serves the Llanberis and Snowdon area, and is involved in hundreds of mountain rescues a year in all conditions and they save dozens of lives every year.
Please follow this link to the Llanberis Mountain Rescue main site if you would like information about the charity and their work. :
